The Listeners
Paul Tiernan, Tony Davis and Donagh Long are The Listeners.
All three have long careers in writing, recording and touring music. During the winter of 1998 while living in West Cork they came together to perform three part acoustic and vocal arrangements of their favorite songs.
In the summer of 2000 they recorded “Live at the Courtyard” during their weekly gigs in that famous establishment in Schull. Regular gigs over the next two years honed a performance that combined not just a vocal style but energy, emotion, humor and the joy of music that has lived long in all three to this day.
The intervening years saw them again pursue their individual careers and lives.
The Listeners are together again in the summer of 2023 for a limited number of performances.
West Cork Summer 2000, recorded live in the loveliest acoustic space in the world — that is Denis and Finolas pub — The Courtyard, Schull.
Surrounded by creamy pints of Murphys and a ships bell to call hush, half-time and have you no homes to go to
All songs sung and played by: Tony Davis, the man who has more songs in his head than can be counted. He whipped the other two boys into shape in the harmony department. Donagh Long, composer of world wide hits, lives in Spain but can still make it down to Macarthys, Baltimore for the last pint. Paul Tiernan, the young fella, guitarist and mandola player with all kinds of famous people. Songs from way back when and not that long ago, music to sway to.
The bell rings, the pub is packed with everyone from everywhere, the three listeners in a huddle start to sing ‘happy doin’ what we’re doin’ — and they mean it…
